Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province and a sub-provincial city, is commonly referred to as "Rong" and known by nicknames such as Rongcheng and Jincheng. It is a major city in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle. The city administers 12 districts, 3 counties, and oversees 5 county-level cities, with a permanent population of approximately 20.9378 million as of 2020.


Chengdu features a flat terrain, an intricate network of rivers, abundant natural resources, and a developed agricultural sector. It enjoys a subtropical monsoon humid climate and has been historically known as the "Land of Abundance." As a global hub for the electronic information industry, it is home to 30 national-level research institutions, 67 national-level R&D platforms, and 56 universities, with a total talent pool of about 3.89 million. In 2019, 301 Fortune Global 500 companies set up operations in Chengdu.


Chengdu is one of the top ten ancient capitals of China and one of the first batch of national historical and cultural cities. It is also the birthplace of the ancient Shu civilization. The Jinsha site within the city has a history of over 3,000 years, and various regimes, such as Shu Han, Cheng Han, Front Shu, and Back Shu, have established their capitals here. The city boasts several famous landmarks, including the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, Wuhou Shrine, Du Fu's Thatched Cottage, the Jinsha Site, the Ming Shu King Tombs, Wangjiang Pavilion, and Qingyang Palace, making it one of the best tourist cities in China.
